Is this young Italian really what Arsenal need?

Daniele RuganiA couple of days ago it was reported Arsenal had lodged a £13 million bid for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.

Although the offer was turned down by the Serie A double winners, it’s believed Arsene Wenger will go back in with an improved bid in the upcoming weeks.

However, despite the setback, reports claim Juve are willing to sell the 20-year-old, who is yet to feature for Massimiliano Allegri’s side after buying him outright from Empoli, giving Arsenal hope of landing the young centre-back.

But the Gunners will have to fend off Napoli, who are also said to be interested in the Italian and had a loan bid recently rejected by Juve.

It’s understood Wenger wants to bolster his defensive options this summer and potentially find a replacement for Per Mertesacker and see Rugani as an ideal candidate.

But should Wenger really be targeting a 20-year-old to strengthen his defence for next season’s campaign?

Rugani may well be a talented young defender, but we need a more experienced head to join the club this summer, someone who can actually walk into the starting line-up or at least offer competition to our current centre-backs.

I would rather see Arsenal spend or put the money towards Rugani on a centre-back who can offer us something now rather than in the future.

If the Gunners are serious about challenging for honours next season then they need to bring in serious players with experience, not young prospects.
