Arsenal are ready to end their pursuit of Morgan Schneiderlin, with the midfielder’s £25 million asking price appearing to be the stumbling block, and will consider other options instead.
The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a holding midfielder to compliment and challenge Francis Coquelin, but Arsene Wenger has recently indicated that the current Arsenal squad doesn’t require marquee signings this summer to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
Coquelin’s emergence in midfield in the past six months has left Wenger reassessing his targets this summer, although many Arsenal fans would like to see someone come in to strengthen core of the side.
Schneiderlin has been on Wenger’s radar for the past year, but the Frenchman is reportedly baulking at the £25 million asking price, leaving the door open for Manchester United to make a bid for the 25-year-old.

Personally, I don’t think Schneiderlin is all what others make him out to be. Don’t get me wrong, he is a decent player and has excelled at Southampton, but could he do the same for a top four side, I don’t think so. In addition to this, we do already have a number of central midfielders at the club – is Schneiderlin any better than what we currently have at the club?
£25 million isn’t a great deal of money for a player in this day and age, but for that amount of cash I don’t believe it’s worth taking a gamble on a player who may not be ready for the higher level.
Wenger could sign a world-class defender for what Southampton want for Schneiderlin!
I think arsenal is right 2 bulk 25m 4 d star cos he has what it takes 2 go straight to d first team, he’s a very good mid fielder wit premier ship experience.
£25m is not expensive for a 25 year old international with. Schneiderlin’s stats. Perhaps Arsenal should not have been trying to unsettle the player through the media if they were not intending to table an attractive offer. After all , Southampton are not a selling club and would prefer that he stays.
Remember, Schneiderlin counts as a “home-grown” player and that bumps up any price.
