Arsenal man rejects new deal with Bilbao ready to pounce

|

Nacho MonrealNacho Monreal has rejected a new deal at Arsenal, and is set to sign for Athletic Bilbao.

According to the Daily Star, Spanish newspaper AS claims Arsene Wenger is willing to listen to offers for the 29-year-old, whose contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the next season, despite being given the nod ahead of Kieran Gibbs in the left-back position in recent months.

However, despite Monreal reportedly being happy in London, the Spaniard’s future remains uncertain, and Bilbao are ready to offer him a long-term deal – supposedly a three-four year contract.

The La Liga club will approach Arsenal during the summer transfer window period to see if they would be willing to sell Monreal for less than the £8.3 million the Gunners paid for him back in 2013 from Malaga.

Having won the FA Cup yesterday against Aston Villa, Wenger will now prepare his side for a serious title challenge next season by adding new faces and offloading the deadwood this summer – whether the Frenchman sees Monreal as the latter remains to be seen.
