Should Wenger keep or let him go?

theo walcottTheo Walcott will finally open talks about his future in the next two weeks, according to the Daily Mail.

The England winger has just over 12 months left to run on his existing £90,000-a-week deal at the Emirates which has alerted the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, who are both reportedly keen on the 26-year-old.

The Gunners were drawn into a contract saga with Walcott during the 2012/13 season which ended in January that year when he signed a three-year deal.

But Arsenal are once again faced with a similar ordeal this summer, which has left the fans wondering if he will ‘sign da ting’.

Well the good news is, if reports are too believed of course, Walcott is scheduled to sit down with the Arsenal hierarchy over the next fortnight, with the club set to resolve the situation one way or another before it’s too late.

Arsene Wenger has said negotiations over a new deal for Walcott are underway, but the England international has denied such claims.

Walcott has struggled to get games this season for Arsenal – even after he returned from his knee injury which he suffered against Spurs in the FA Cup in January last year. In fact, Theo has only featured 11 times for the Gunners so far this season, starting just one of his last eight games, six of which he has been an unused sub.

It doesn’t make good reading for Walcott, and possibly the final nail in the coffin was hammered in by Wenger last Saturday as the Frenchman picked Aaron Ramsey ahead of him to play on the wing against Burnley.

Walcott will wait to see if he does indeed fit into Wenger’s plans before making any decision on his future, but it doesn’t look good for the Englishman, in my opinion.

Wenger has previously stated that Walcott is not guaranteed a place in the side – even though he has been a regular in past seasons – and with the likes of Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Santi Cazorla all vying for attacking positions, he could struggle further for first-team opportunities in the seasons to come.

So, should Theo stay or go?

Personally, I think he has peaked and will not get any better. He is a decent player but we have others in the current squad that I think are ahead of him now.

Useful squad player, but he won’t want to sit on the bench. So if he decides not to sign a new deal and therefore leave this summer, I for one will not hold a grudge against him.
