Has he left the door open for a move to Arsenal?

|

PedroBarcelona’s Pedro has admitted he is ‘flattered’ at the interest being shown in him, but is in a ‘difficult situation’ at the La Liga club.

Since the summer arrival of Luis Suarez from Liverpool, the 27-year-old Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order, making 25 starts and 24 appearances from the bench. First-team opportunities have become hard to come by for Pedro, and Arsenal and Liverpool are being linked with a summer move for the winger.

With Theo Walcott having another contract saga at Arsenal, the Gunners are keeping their options open should the England international be offloaded.

When asked about his current position at Barcelona and the reported interest in him, Pedro said:

‘I’m in a difficult situation. When the time comes I will talk to [Barcelona].

‘I know that there are clubs interested in me and that is very flattering, but we will evaluate things in the summer.’

Like Walcott, Pedro only has one-year left to run on his existing contract, so Barcelona may listen to offers, should they decide to sell the Spaniard, rather than risk losing on a free, if of course they don’t offer him a contract extension.

So should Arsenal make Pedro one of their top transfer targets this summer?

Personally, I don’t think we are in need of another wide-man coming in. However, should Walcott depart, we will need someone to replace him. If this proves to be the case then Pedro should be considered as a possible suitor – he will, however, not come on the cheap. The Spaniard would offer us width and trickery on the flanks and is a traditional winger, someone who will take on defenders and whip in crosses from the byline.

Arsene Wenger looks to be building an impressive team and if the past two summer transfer windows are anything to go by, then the Frenchman will attempt to bring in a few more top players to add to what we have already.
