Joe GomezAccording to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are frontrunners to land Charlton starlet Joe Gomez.

The England Under-19 international has attracted the attentions of Manchester City and Manchester United, and it is thought the Addicks are willing to cash in on the 17-year-old.

Despite the interest of both Manchester clubs, the Gunners are believed to be in pole position for Gomez’s signature, due to the strong relationship they have with Charlton.

The Championship side are not keen on letting Gomez leave, but would be willing to sell if a fee of at least £8 million is tabled at the end of the season.

Gomez, who has racked up 23 appearances for Charlton in his breakthrough season, can play at right-back or in the centre of the back four.

Arsene Wenger signed Carl Jenkinson from Charlton in 2011 and also loaned Francis Coquelin to the Championship side earlier this season.

Should they manage to sign Gomez it will undoubtedly be viewed as an acquisition for the future rather than the present.
