Charles AranguizCharles Aranguiz recently admitted it would be ‘a dream’ to play for Arsenal but has yet to be contacted by the Gunners.

A few days ago, La Tercera linked the Chilean midfielder with a £4.3 million summer move to the Emirates – after Arsene Wenger was left impressed with the 25-year-old’s performances in last year’s World Cup in Brazil – and yesterday’s Mirror suggests the Frenchman has been keeping tabs on him.

However, Aranguiz, who featured in Chile’s 1-0 defeat to Brazil at the Emirates on Sunday, insists no official contact has yet taken place over a proposed switch at the end of the season:

‘I don’t know anything about it.

‘I’ve heard about it through the press but nobody has talked to me.

‘They’re a great team, and it would be a dream, but for now that’s all it is… a dream.’

The Internacional midfielder has made 14 appearances for the Brazilian outfit since joining them on a permanent basis last summer following a successful loan spell in January 2014.

Aranguiz is contracted to the Porto Alegre side until 2018, but on hearing of his desire to join the Gunners, should Wenger step up his pursuit this summer?

We do have a number of midfield options already in the current squad, but with Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky getting on, and Abou Diaby likely to leave the Emirates at the end of the season, we will need new blood injected into the side, and Aranguiz would make a great addition to the group.

Aranguiz is a tireless midfielder and like fellow countryman Alexis Sanchez, he will run for miles for the cause. As well as that, the Chilean also boasts good awareness and a range of passing which would suit Arsenal’s style of play.

The Chilean is valued at around £8 million and if he is like Sanchez, then he won’t have a problem settling in and appeasing the fans – he’s certainly a player that Wenger should keep his eye on from now until the end of the season.
