SchneiderlinRay Parlour believes Arsene Wenger should make Morgan Schneiderlin is top target this summer.

The Gunners currently sit third in the Premier League table and are on course to finish in the top four, and after their Champions League exit to Monaco last night, their only realistic hope of silverware this season is once again the FA Cup.

But as well as the FA Cup on his mind and in his sights, Wenger will also be writing up his shopping list this summer, which will no doubt include Southampton midfielder Schneiderlin.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Southampton and was close to a departure last summer but opted to stay for at least another season. However, he will again be touted with a move away at the end of the season and Arsenal will be a possible destination.

And Parlour, who won nine major trophies with Arsenal, say Wenger must land Schneiderlin and another world class star, if they are to challenge for the Premier League title next season:

‘Arsenal need to get Morgan Schneiderlin if he’s available in the summer.

‘He would be perfect. He’s a little bit like Gilberto Silva when he was at Arsenal. He can sit back into the back four and, when it’s wide, he can be another centre half. That’s so good if you can do that. He’s so comfortable on the ball and someone like him would be a great addition.’

He added:

‘There has to be big investment at Arsenal this summer. The Premier League is more important than the Champions League.

‘They need to be challenging Chelsea and Man City, along with Liverpool and Manchester United next season.

‘He’s got to go and buy two top class players and really add to the squad. Then maybe they can challenge for the league title next season.’

Schneiderlin would be a great signing for the club, but like Parlour said, more will need to be added than the French midfielder at the end of the season.
