Barca keen on pacey Arsenal starlet

|

Hector BellerinBarcelona are keen on bringing back Hector Bellerin to the Camp Nou, according to the Sunday Star.

Bellerin was brought to the Emirates in 2011, along with several other young Barcelona starlets, but the Catalans are in urgent need of a right-back coming in with Dani Alves set to leave on a free this summer and have targeted the 20-year-old.

The Spaniard has made a total of 19 appearances for the Gunners so far this season as Mathieu Debuchy has been injured for the majority of the campaign. Bellerin has impressed Arsene Wenger so much that he was rewarded with a new four-year deal.

Barca do have a transfer embargo placed on them this summer by FIFA after breaching rules on attracting foreign youngsters, but the La Liga side are ready to appeal for the second time against the ruling at the end of the season – should they win their appeal then it is highly likely that they will step up their interest in Bellerin.

19 appearances for Bellerin is something that wasn’t expected this season, not even he would have hoped for the amount of outings he’s had this season. But the fans have warmed to him and believe he can become a great player for the club in years to come. However, he is likely to lose his place in the side once Debuchy regains fitness next season, meaning Bellerin could become frustrated at the lack of first-team football after such a promising start to his Arsenal career.

I don’t see him leaving the club on a permanent basis this summer as he could offer competition to Debuchy. But if Wenger believes Bellerin won’t see as much action as he has done this season, then perhaps a loan move away to aid his development would be the next best option for the young defender.
