Arsenal 2-0 Everton – my player ratings

|

Olivier Giroud ArsenalHere are my Arsenal player ratings from today’s 2-0 home win over Everton:

David Ospina – Was called into action on a number occasions today, dealt with what was thrown at him and read the game well. 7/10

Hector Bellerin – Made some speedy, surging runs down the flank and always offered the overlap. Still a lot to learn about defending but growing with every game he plays. 6/10

Gabriel – Lost his bearings early on after misjudging the bounce of the ball but redeemed himself minutes later with a superb challenge in the box. Got better as the game wore on. 7/10

Laurent Koscielny – Was composed on the ball and read the game well. 7/10

Kieran Gibbs – Like Bellerin, the England international bombed forward when possible and delivered some decent crosses in. 6/10

Francis Coquelin – Broke up play, made a number of interceptions and kept position well throughout. Was in the wars today. 7.5/10

Santi Cazorla – Was slow off the mark in the early stages but got into the game and tried to make things happen in midfield. Good close control and awareness. 6.5/10

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Movement off and on the ball was decent, and gave it his all when others looked sluggish. 6.5/10

Alexis Sanchez – Started brightly, making some powerful runs down the flank but faded from the game and failed to make things happen like we are used to see him doing. 6/10

Mesut Ozil – Went back into his shell today. Looked slow off the mark and movement off the ball wasn’t up to scratch. Spurned a great chance to kill the game off. 4/10

Olivier Giroud – Thought it was going to be one of those days for the Frenchman after squandering a glorious chance early on, but netted his ninth goal before the interval with a lovely low volley. 7/10

SUBS:

Tomas Rosicky – Replaced Chamberlain in the 82nd minute and got Arsenal’s second of the day after seeing his 20-yardish shot take a deflection into the back of the net. 6/10

Danny Welbeck – On for Sanchez with four minutes to go and got into some decent areas. N/A

Calum Chambers – Came in the 88th minute for Coquelin and took the Frenchman’s place in front of the back four. N/A

Ozil with both assist and played well defensively. Don’t comment on ratings when you don’t understand the game.

  • Kalix says:

Agree with the Coquelin rating but if Özil is a 4 in this game then you were not watching the game.

I think anyone who watched this game should come to a simple conclusion. Luck was on the gunners side today! Chamberlain rarely present, sanchez hasn’t played the same in 3 weeks, Giroud missed 2 sitters, Gabriel was the * man of the match. overall if people want to settle for lackluster and poor performance wins then right now that’s all you will get from the Gunners. I myself am getting frustrated with the lack of passion and determination they bring onto the field. I would like to thank Theo for his services at Arsenal, his attacking presence is no longer needed. Wengers motto directed straight at him Don’t play defense you don’t play. Well if this continues for arsenal Say hello to the end of the champions league on the 10th of March, seriously if fans truly stand by this than when arsene wenger does leave go with them your perception of the game has dwindled with him.

The boys did a great job but should have score more goals if a profilic striker would be there. Wish Arsenal would be faster like liverpool.

  • Beno Innocent says:

Ozil shd have been 8/10 coz he worked for all de goals. Weldone gunners.

Ozil 4/10??? Were you born in Chelsea? He was brilliant, good vision, great at running into space and got the assists, watch the game next time.

I was more than happy with Ozil’s performance today. His passes made a difference. Makes this beautiful game look so easy.

Someone commented on Arsenal being lucky today, If that is the case, then I would take a “lucky” performance like this one any time of the day. The midfield and defence stopped Everton from playing. Yes, Everton had possession, but what did they do with it? Anything aerial, Arsenal dealt with very well. Barkley was not allowed to play today which made a huge impact on Lukaku and Mirallas looking for scraps. Luck? I think not. Ospina impressed today as well.

Roberto Martinez has always been able to open us up, even when he was at Wigan. Not today. That is a huge positive.

Glad to see Giroud on the scoresheet, but he needed to score at least 2 out of four clear chances. His link up play, running off the ball and positioning has matured greatly. He presents a problem for any defence and he should be finishing better.

I hope that we have a “lucky” 3-0 win against Monaco as this Arsenal side is way better than Monaco’s.

Agreed with most of your ratings but just didn’t understand Ozil low rating. He had a good game, not great but very solid. 4 is just a ridiculous rating for him in this game IMO.

  • fu says:

4/10 that makes Ozil worse player in the side. À bit silly considering he got 2 assists.. obviously a Ozil Hater.
