Gabriel PaulistaGabriel Paulista could be sold to Arsenal before the January transfer window closes, says Villarreal manager Marcelino Garcia Toral.

The Brazilian defender has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in the past few days, with reports suggesting the Gunners are in talks with Paulista.

Wenger is set to bring in a new defender to tighten up his defence with Mathieu Debuchy out for three months, and is supposedly ready to meet Paulista’s reported £15.3 million release clause.

And the Frenchman’s hopes of signing the versatile defender have been boosted as Marcelino confirmed the 24-year-old could be sold.

He told El Larguero, as reported by the Daily Mail:

‘I hadn’t considered selling Gabriel, it’s bad news from a sporting point of view.

‘But if both Gabriel and the club believe that his sale to Arsenal is the best for all parties, we will accept.’

Paulista has featured in every La Liga game for Villarreal so far this season, but did recently hint that a move to England is on the cards this month.

But should Arsene Wenger meet the player’s release clause of £15.3 million?

It’s a big sum of money for Wenger to spend on a defender, but his versatility would be so beneficial to our cause this season.
