GuerreiroArsenal are keeping tabs on Raphael Guerreiro, according to reports.

It is thought Arsene Wenger is planning to strengthen his fragile defence this month and is rumoured to be interested in the Lorient left-back.

The 22-year-old, who has been capped twice for Portugal, was named in the Ligue 2 Team of the Year while playing for Caen before he made the move to Lorient in summer 2013.

Guerreiro featured regularly for Lorient in his debut season, making 34 appearances in total, and has become an important player for the French club.

Guerreiro’s natural position is on the left side of the back four but can operate on the wing as well.

His current contract at Lorient expires in June 2017 and is valued at around £3 million.

Wenger would do well to bolster his options at left-back with Nacho Monreal unconvincing and Kieran Gibbs’ fitness always in question.

Wenger managed to sign Laurent Koscielny from Lorient in 2010 and can easily convince the Ligue 1 side to sell Guerreiro – especially if the Frenchman tables an irresistible offer.
