Marek HamsikArsene Wenger appears keen to add to his squad when the January transfer window opens and has targeted both Mattia Destro of Roma and Napoli’s creative midfielder Marek Hamsik, according to Spanish website Fichajes.net.

Destro has been the subject of much interest from the Gunners in recent weeks, with the Italian forward said to be ‘very pleased’ to have attracted the attentions of Mr. Wenger.

The 23-year-old has scored four goals in 12 Serie A games for Romas so far this season, but has struggled to cement a regular starting role in Rudi Garcia’s side with others ahead of him in the striking pecking order.

It is believed that the Italian outfit are now ready to let Destro leave when the January transfer window opens and have reportedly offered the highly-rated striker to Arsenal for £15 million.

Meanwhile, Hamsik has reappeared on Wenger’s radar, despite the Slovakian being an important part of Rafa Benitez’s side.

The 27-year-old has contributed just two goals and assists in 13 Serie A appearances so far, but Wenger may be looking to replace the likes of Tomas Rosicky, who looks set to leave the Emirates sooner rather than later, and or Santi Cazorla, who is being targeted by a number of clubs around Europe, with Hamsik.

However, it is believed that Wenger will only make a move for the duo if he can offload Lukas Podolksi and Joel Campbell, whose futures at the club remain uncertain.

Although we are not in desperate need of another striker or creative midfielder coming in, if Wenger decides to let go of Podolski and Campbell this January then bringing in Destro and Hamsik as replacements would be welcomed by all at the Emirates.

I wouldn’t hold my breath at this actually transpiring though.
