Is there still hope for Arsenal to land this PSG ace?

|

Edinson CavaniArsenal have been linked with a few strikers ahead of the January transfer window which opens on Thursday – why I do not know (tracking a forward that is).

But they have been given a major boost in their reported pursuit of Edinson Cavani after the Uruguayan was left out of the club’s training camp in Marrakech.

The 27-year-old moved from Napoli to PSG in the summer of 2013 and struggled early on to replicate the form he once had at the Italian outfit.

But Cavani has found his feet at the Ligue 1 fat-cats and has scoring 38 goals in 65 appearances in all competitions since his arrival to the Parc des Princes.

The Uruguay international has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks and although PSG have ruled out the sale of the striker, the news of Cavani not travelling to Morocco will only give the Gunners hope that a deal can be reached.

On the PSG website and official statement read, as reported by the Metro:

‘Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian players David Luiz, Marquinhos, Maxwell, Thiago Silva and Lucas arrived, as expected, on Sunday evening in Marrakech and were present at training this morning.

‘Javier Pastore rejoins his teammates this afternoon, while Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi resume training back in Paris.’

Should PSG decide to offload the striker, reports have suggested that Cavani, who still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his existing deal, will cost around £50 million.

Now a striker shouldn’t be our priority this January and although I would love to see him at the Emirates, Arsene Wenger needs to address the more pressing matters at hand – our defence and finding a defensive midfielder.

Having said that, Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell have been linked with moves away from Arsenal and should this happen, then perhaps a new forward will be needed to add depth, and if Wenger is prepared to splash the cash to acquire Cavani then I’m all for the move – but let’s get a centre-back through the front door first.
