lucassilvaLucas Silva is heading to either Arsenal, Manchester United or Chelsea after Real Madrid ruled themselves out of the running.

The Champions League winners were thought to be leading the chase for the Cruzeiro midfielder, but club president Florentino Perez insists Real will only consider buying him at the end of the current season:

‘Unless there are extraordinary circumstances, we will not bring reinforcements in the winter transfer market. Right now there are none.

‘If Lucas Silva has to come, it will be in the summer under normal circumstances.’

But the 21-year-old playmaker, who has been dubbed the ‘next Kaka’ in his native Brazil, hopes to seal a move to a top European club when the January transfer window opens.

News of Real’s withdrawal will certainly boost Arsenal, United and Chelsea chances of signing the Brazilian Under-21 international, all of whom have been keeping tabs on him.

Silva has an asking price of £13 million and the Premier League trio are all expected to meet the Cruzeiro’s valuation when the transfer window opens next month.

Arsene Wenger has transfer funds to utilize this January, and Arsenal fans will want the Frenchman to bolster the squad ahead and after the Christmas period. But, seeing another playmaker come in, however good he may be, may not go down particularly with the majority of the Emirates faithful as many will want Wenger to strengthen the defensive areas of the side.
