fekirEarlier in the week we told you Arsenal were tracking Lyon starlet Nabil Fekir after sending scouts to watch the 21-year-old midfielder, who revealed his ‘pleasure’ at being linked with Arsene Wenger’s side.

Fekir has played a pivotal role in Lyon’s fine start to the Ligue 1 season, contributing six goals and three assists in 14 appearances, and his form has attracted interest from a number of European sides.

Arsenal are thought to be frontrunners for the youngster’s signature, but Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas has told them and any other interested clubs to forget about signing their equivalent to Lionel Messi:

‘He will remain with us.

‘He can become a very good footballer in the next two to three years. Though the comparison is not right, Fekir is our own Messi.’

Well it is very clear that Lyon are not going to entertain any offers for Fekir, and to be fair Wenger shouldn’t be targeting moves for more midfielders – we have enough of them as it is.

Wenger should focus on strengthening our defence first before going for attack-minded players this January.
