Here is a transfer rumour that could get the Emirates faithful talking – Arsenal are interested in signing Cristian Ledesma.
Don’t know who he is or where Arsene Wenger spotted him? Well I’ll tell you. On summer transfer deadline day this year, Wenger decided to referee a charity match in Rome which prompted much fury from Arsenal fans – Ledesma was a participant in this game.
Ledesma himself plays for Lazio and is not getting any younger at 32, but reports suggest Wenger could look to bring him in to the Emirates this January (rings any bells? Kim Kallstrom deal last year?).
Although the Argentine’s contract is set to expire in the summer, Wenger could be forced to make a move for the ageing midfielder, with Jack Wilshere out for up to four months.
Ledesma’s agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito has confirmed that Wenger has sent scouts out to watch his client as well, so this rumour does have some substance to it:
‘It is true, Arsenal are interested in Cristian.
‘There have been scouts, we’ll see if there will be an opportunity to examine an offer.’
Ledesma would bring a little more solidarity and experience to our midfield if he was to sign for us this winter, but surely Wenger can do better than bring him in? This potential signing will not go down with many, if not all, Arsenal fans.
