Xherdan ShaqiriPep Guardiola has decided to sanction the sale of Xherdan Shaqiri in January, which may alert Arsene Wenger as the Frenchman looks to bolster his squad over the Christmas period.

Liverpool and Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the Switzerland international, with the former having a €20 million knocked back by Bayern Munich last summer.

Shaqiri has struggled to impress Gaurdiola since his move from Basel in 2012 and is behind both Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben in the pecking order. He has only managed to feature eight times in the Bundesliga for Bayern, starting just three of these games, and his future at the club looks in doubt.

Although the 23-year-old winger impressed with Switzerland in Brazil over the summer, Guardiola has reportedly run out of patience with the player, who the Spaniard believes, according to German newspaper Bild, lacks tactical nous to become a part of his first-team plans.

Wenger firstly needs to strengthen the centre of his midfield and defence over January, but could well be interested in adding a natural winger to his squad as well.

Shaqiri still has two years left to run on his existing deal at the Allianz and is valued at £17.6 million by Transfermarkt.com, which may deter Wenger’s interest though, with recent reports suggesting the Frenchman only has £20 million to spend this January.
