Sabatini rules out ‘top player’ sale to Arsenal

mattia destroIn the past few days, Arsenal have been rumoured with a move for Mattia Destro, who in turn was flattered to be linked with Arsene Wenger’s side.

However, Roma’s director of sport Walter Sabatini has stated that the Serie A outfit are not in interested in letting a ‘top player’ like Destro leave anytime soon.

Although the Italian forward has only netted four goals so far this season for Roma, the 23-year-old’s performances have, reportedly, attracted the interest of Arsenal and Chelsea, with both clubs currently considering launching £20 million bids for Destro when the January transfer window opens.

But Sabatini recently quashed these rumours by insisting the club have no intention of selling Destro, who is viewed as their prized asset.

Quoted in the Daily Star, Sabatini said:

‘We’re happy with the roster we have, but we’re always monitoring.

‘Destro is off the market as far as we are concerned, we consider him a top player and therefore he won’t leave.’

To be honest, I don’t think we need to recruit a new striker as we already have Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and even Lukas Podolski to call upon – not to mention Olivier Giroud, who is nearly back to full fitness.

Besides, Sabatini’s comments are very clear and I doubt we will see Destro leave in the imminent future.
