Would this young German solve our defensive problems?

Antonio RudigerNo doubt about it, Arsenal will be trying to seal some deals this January – especially with what we have seen so far from the Gunners this season.

Arsene Wenger has admitted already that he will be looking to bring in new faces, but who we don’t know.

The majority of the Emirates faithful want to see the Frenchman sign a holding midfielder and possibly, despite bringing in Calum Chambers this summer, another centre-back.

Sami Khedira has been heavily linked once again with a move to Arsenal and this may finally come to fruition in January, with the German midfielder dropping his wage demands to seal the deal.

So that would be one of Wenger’s two positions sorted, but who does he bring in to provide decent defensive cover?

Well Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk recently admitted his admiration for the club, and another young defender last week done the same – Antonio Rudiger.

Cheslea are chasing Rudiger, 20, and are believed to be close to signing the young German defender for a reported £7 million, but he would prefer to join Arsenal instead:

‘I have always dreamed of the Premier League,’

‘I have been following Arsenal since the days of Henry and Bergkamp. I watch videos of Arsenal all the time on YouTube and I often wear the current Alexis Sanchez shirt.

‘My heart beats for Arsenal.’

But would Rudiger solve our defensive problems?

I have seen him play a handful of games and I have to say, the guy has got something special about him. He has great composure on the ball, good speed and pace about him and good awareness and positioning for someone so young. However, he still has a lot to learn and a move to the Premier League may be a bit early for the youngster

Although Rudiger would be a welcomed signing – especially after admitting his love for Arsenal – and one for the future, I think Wenger needs to sign a more experienced centre-back, one able and confident enough to sit alongside either Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny.

Antonio Rudiger is my preferred option for a new central defender. He is already a German international and what I have read he can also play fullback or CDM

I like Rudiger al lot. As for his age and being able to play with BFG and Laurent, hell that all happens with time as they get to know each other. He has Mertesacker to learn from back there. I would like to see him come in, and see if Chambers can develop into a defensive mid in front of the back line
