Will the goals come for him once he gets off the mark?

Yaya SanogoYaya Sanogo believes he will not stop scoring for Arsenal when he eventually gets off the mark.

Sanogo arrived from Auxerre last year but has struggled to find his feet and the back of the net in the 17 appearances he has made so far for the Gunners.

As a result of the Frenchman’s inability to get his name on the score-sheet, the Emirates faithful have been left frustrated and calling on Wenger to sign a striker who is capable of scoring goals.

But after bagging a brace in France’s U21 5-1 win over Kazakhstan, the 21 year-old striker insists it is only a matter of time before he quietens his critics.

He told L’Equipe, as reported by ESPN.co.uk:

‘Football is the football, but it takes time to adapt’

‘When you come out of Ligue 2 and you end up in a duel with [ManCity’s Vincent] Kompany, it is not an easy task.

‘On all aspects (of my game) I’ve evolved. When you train with great players every day, you progress. When you play big teams, it helps gain experience.

‘The fans expect me to score more, but once the first one goes in they’ll come.

‘At 21, it’s not easy to play striker at Arsenal. You have to fight every day to prove your worth. But Wenger just pushes me to continue my work will eventually pay off.’

You can’t help but sympathize with Sanogo’s words. It must be hard to come in from Ligue 2 and play for such an illustrious club like Arsenal. And because we expect so much we fail to realize that he is only 21 and still learning his trade.

However, Sanogo has had chances to get off the mark this and last season and has failed to deliver, and if this continues then unfortunately criticism will follow. At the end of the day, a striker’s job is to score goals and if he’s not doing this on a regular basis then he must be prepared for what comes after.

He does hold-up play extremely well and gets his body about, I’ll give him that, but his composure in front of goal needs a lot of work.

I hope it works out for him but with Danny Welbeck now in the squad he may not get as many opportunities to break the goal drought.
