Luiz GustavoArsene Wenger will turn his attention to Luiz Gustavo after a move for Sami Khedira was shut down by Carlo Ancelotti.

Wenger is keen to bolster his midfield with a defensive-minded player before the transfer window shuts next week and was targeting Khedira for the role. But the German looks set to remain at Real and now the Frenchman is going to try his luck with a move for Gustavo.

The Daily Mirror claims Arsenal scouts were watching the Brazilian play in Wolfsburg’s opening Bundesliga match against Bayern Munich on Friday night, and Wenger may step up his interest in the 27-year-old in the upcoming days.

A late deal for Gustavo could well transpire with Wolfsburg said to be interested in Lukas Podolski, who looks set to leave the Emirates this summer, with the Gunners offering a player-plus-cash offer for the resolute defensive midfielder.

Wenger attempted to sign Gustavo last summer, but did not give the Brazilian assurances of a starting berth, so instead signed for Wolfsburg.

Gustavo, valued at just over £19 million, still has four-years left to run on his current deal.

But should a good offer be tabled, which include Podolksi’s services, in the upcoming days then the Bundesliga club will have a tough time in refusing it.

Gustavo would be a great signing and the robust midfielder we are craving for.

Let’s see what happens in the next six days.

How many players are going to be linked with us???? In the end there’ll be none signed apart from the ones we’ve already signed

Wenger has been linked with all the great players of 2014 Brazil. He has got Sanchez who looks over weight and Debuchy. All are replacement players. He did not buy a single word clas player who can help the team with extra ordinary goal scoring capabilities nor did he buy a solid center back like Hummels. I am sure by the end of the transfer window. We will have the same team. At the most the injured Fellaini could join.
