Sami KhediraSami Khedira seems to be the flavour of the month for Arsenal fans with the German midfielder being heavily linked with a move to the Emirates this summer.

Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy both joined the Gunners last week and Arsene Wenger wants to continue to bring in new faces and Khedira appears to be high on the Frenchman’s list.

Recent reports have suggested that a deal for the 25-year-old had been done with only personal terms to be agreed. However, with the player and club on different pages over wages, the deal now seems to be on the rocks, and Real are now preparing to offer the German international a new bumper contract to stay put.

But journalist Darren Lewis believes that Khedira used Arsenal’s interest to his own advantage to get a better deal at the Bernabeu.

He told talkSPORT’s Hawksbee and Jacobs:

‘I don’t think Khedira to Arsenal will happen. The cynic in me thinks Arsenal have been used a little by Khedira and Real Madrid.

‘Arsenal sniffed around to see the lay of the land and have not been able to reach an agreement. He wanted a huge contract, which will put him above any other player at the club, and we all know about Arsenal’s wage structure.’

Lewis finished off by saying:

‘As far as Arsenal are concerned they have pulled out. Now the word coming over from Spain is that he will stay at Real Madrid.’

Although Khedira would be an ideal signing for us, if he wants to stay in Spain then Wenger better move on to his next target before he misses out.

    Khedira is 27, not 25.

As an Arsenal fan I can safely say that he is not my flavour of the month. Despite being a very good player I’m not convinced he possesses the natural defensive instincts that the team is in obvious need of. William Carvalho, however, does; Wenger will develop him into a world class player inside two seasons… In my opinion.

I think to suggest that Real Madrid and the player himself have used Arsenal is completely off point too: It would be silly not to enquire as to availability of a player who interests you but his demands (apparently) were/are too high and he cannot justify being the highest paid player in the squad, that distinction is rightly reserved for Ozil, who is our most talented asset.

Khedira schneirderlin the benders carvalho martinez. Have to say I don’t care which, but it seems to everyone bar wenger that is what we need.

Last year we all wanted a striker, wenger bought an central attacking midfielder. This summer we all wanted a defensive midfielder, wenger buys a winger.

Is it not obvious to anyone that arsenal is very much his own man. He is in control and regardless of everyone’s wishes and opinions it is wenger and wenger only who decides what positions need filling and what players will fill them.

If vermaelen leaves, expect us to sign a goalkeeper!!

You just cant please some people!

    Things you missed:
1)Sanchez can play centrally as well. We strengthened our attack because without ramsey’s contribution of goals from the midfield, we weren’t up to the mark.

2)We are already in the market for a DM

    3) Even if vermaelen stays, we will sign a goalkeeper

Spurs fan, Darren Lewis, knows nothing. Pure guesswork from him.

Khedira will not be able to use Arsenal to force Real Madrid into doubling his wages when they’ve just signed Toni Kroos and will be keen to let him go with a year left on his contract (as per Guillem Balague and numerous other Spanish media)

Unless another big club comes in for him, there’s still a decent chance he’ll lower his wage demands and end up at Arsenal, rather than sitting on the bench at Real Madrid for a year in his prime. Doesn’t seem like the mercenary type, just trying his luck with a long way to go in the transfer window.
