Arsene WengerAhmed Fathi is set to link up with Arsenal for pre-season training, according to SkySports.com.

The 29-year-old has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for quite sometime with the Frenchman attempting to sign the Egyptian but failed to do so due to work permit issues.

But it is understood that Fahti, who can play in the anchorman position as well as right-back, is set to leave Al Ahly, and Wenger will look to have him train with the Gunners with a view to sign him on a permanent basis.

Fathi has flown to England to join Arsenal having rejected a number of lucrative deals in the Middle East, according to Craig Honeyman who is the managing director of SEM who represents the player.

‘Ahmed is wanting to play in England, and he has turned down some very big offers to both stay in Egypt and also on the continent.

‘A number of clubs in the Premier League and Championship want to talk with him, but we have agreed he will train at Arsenal and will see what will come from that – he is very excited about the prospect.’

Wenger is thought to be on the lookout for a defensive midfielder, with Sami Khedira and Lars Bender high on the Frenchman’s list, and should Fahti join after pre-season, the Emirates faithful will still be hoping to see one of the two aforementioned names arrive at the club as well.
