Pablo Armero (Columbia)Arsenal looked to have acquired the services of Mathieu Debuchy after Newcastle reportedly accepted an offer close to £8 million for the Frenchman.

So Arsene Wenger has quickly filled the void left by Manchester City-bound Bacary Sagna but the Frenchman still has a lot more work to do in the summer transfer window, with many Arsenal fans wanting some improvement upfront and midfield.

But Wenger seems to have other ideas, with reports yesterday suggesting the Gunners are considering a move for Colombian left-back Pablo Armero, who apparently is keen on a return to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, where he made just five appearances for the east London club.

But after a number of impressive displays for Colombia at the World Cup, reports suggest a handful of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, are keen on Armero.

The Udinese left-back is supposedly ‘desperate to get back to the Premier League on a permanent basis’ and may swap Italy for England before the start of September after being told by by Udinese director Franco Soldati that he is ‘for sale’

Armero was brought outright by Udinese only last month after previously being co-owned with Napoli.

But is he a player we should be looking at? Do we really need another left-back at our club?

Personally, I don’t think he is a necessity for us. We already have Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal in this position and although the Colombia international is more effective going forward, I believe the wingers we have operating on the left wing are far superior.

Wenger did well to bring in a new right-back and address the situation quickly, but now he needs to focus on the other areas of the side that need strengthening rather than bolster one that isn’t so important.
