Arsene WengerArsenal are reportedly attempting to land Luke Shaw from Southampton this summer, but have recently been linked with another Saints starlet by the name of Callum Slattery, according to The Sunday People.

The 16-year-old midfielder is currently plying his trade and playing regularly for the Southampton youth set-up and has been offered a pro contract by the club. But the youngster has yet to commit, paving the way for Arsenal to make a cheeky move for the teenage sensation.

Arsenal sent their chief scout Steve Rowley to watch Slattery and are keen to open talks with the young midfielder. And if this proves to be the case then Slattery will have to decide whether he wants to continue learning at Southampton, who are keen to keep the youngster at bay, or work under Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

If the Gunners can persuade Slattery to join them this summer then the club will have to pay a sizeable compensation fee to the Saints.

Unlike what others may think, it’s always good for a club to seek out raw talent, and if Slattery has it then why not snap him up now before he becomes a big commodity.

Interesting comment about young Saints stagnating! Which ones were you thinking of when you wrote that? Maybe Walcott?
