Marcos RojoArsenal are running the rule on Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners have reportedly been scouting the 24-year-old Argentine and could make a move for the centre-back at the end of the season.

Rojo, who has also been watched by Liverpool, Manchester United and City already this season, has been in impressive form for Sporting, helping them rise to second place in the Portuguese league table.

The 6’1’’ has been capped 20 times for Argentina and although he naturally operates for Sporting in the centre of defence, Rojo is utilized as a left-back for his country.

Rojo, who has scored five goals in 24 appearances in all competitions so far this season for the Portuguese outfit, is valued at around £5 million and is contracted to Sporting until 2016.

Defensive cover for next season’s campaign could be on the cards for Arsene Wenger as Johan Djourou looks set to depart, while Thomas Vermaelen’s future at the Emirates still looks in doubt.

His versatility would be invaluable as we have had defensive issues in the past.

Let’s see where this one goes.

Here is a video of Rojo in action for both club and country:
