arsenal-badgeHere are my Arsenal player ratings from this afternoon’s 4-1 FA Cup win over Everton at the Emirates:

Lukasz Fabianski – Had a fairly comfortable afternoon. Made a few decent saves here and there but couldn’t do anything about the goal the Gunners conceded. 7/10

Bacary Sagna – Delivered plenty of balls into the box when in advanced areas. Got forward well but positioning, at times, was poor. Provided an assist for Arsenal’s third. 7/10

Per Mertesacker – The big German was positioned well throughout and won everything in the air. 7/10

Thomas Vermaelen – Only his seventh start for the Arsenal captain this season, but Vermaelen didn’t look out of place. Read the game well and showed Arsene Wenger he still has a job to do at the club. 7/10

Kieran Gibbs – Got forward well and wasn’t afraid to take on opposing players. Questionable positioning at times, but overall, Gibbo did well. 6.5/10

Mikel Arteta – Kept things neat and tidy in midfield, spraying the ball around, and advanced further up the field than usual. Tucked home a penalty to put Arsenal 2-1 ahead. 7/10

Mathieu Flamini – Commanded the midfield well and gave good protection to the back four. Was tenacious in the tackle. Booked. 7/10

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Lost the ball on a few occasions but showed great spirit and determination to win the ball back, which he did. A robust performance from the 20-year-old. 7.5/10

Santi Cazorla – Always looked to create and found pockets in behind the Everton midfield. Showcased his passing ability and was comfortable on the ball. 8/10

Mesut Ozil – Didn’t put a foot wrong today. The German maestro’s passing was on point and he always looked to bring others into play. Was very assured on the ball and even tracked back! Scored and created a goal today. Superb. 9/10

Yaya Sanogo – Tried to bring those around him into play but found it difficult to settle. 5/10

SUBS:

Olivier Giroud – Replaced Sanogo with 30 minutes left on the clock. Bagged a brace in the final 10. 8/10

Tomas Rosicky – Came on for Ox on the 77th minute. Made some incisive passes and played a key part in Arsenal’s fourth goal. 6/10

i would say u are right on ozil and the rest but i would give rosicky 8/10 because he was the game changer. he made sure things tick for the gunners.

  • Rodney Oduor says:

I vote ozil man of the match but will not overlook cazorla’s contribution throughout the game…he was just outstanding, the ox was faulty but as usual, he must always do something remarkable in the pitch so i will say the ox was just good!

I think your mark on Sanogo is harsh.I thought the boy put himself about well and tried a lot of things that did not come off but this did not make him go into his shell,i believe this shows he has a lot of self confidence and with more games he will surely become a integral part of the side.Overall

  • Oye says:

Ozil was nowhere near a 9, lost the ball just like Ox several times, the difference was Ox tracked back and won the ball back, his (Ozil’s) goal was as much the product of great passing as it was his calmness in front of goal. His assist to Giroud was nothing special for a player of his caliber, and again the work was all done before the ball came to him. Ox gets an 8 for effort and Ozil a 7, man of the match for me was Arteta, more comfortable as a holding mid playing with Flamini, he is never going to be a DM.

  • Alli Olusegun says:

TV5 did have a shaky moment, but overall he kept Lukaku at bay. 6/10.
Flamini’d have prevented Barkley from cutting into the box if he hadn’t been booked. His overall performance was incredible. 6.5/10

    Oye
although I think you made some valid points there i still think your evaluation of ozil’s performance is unfair and unjust. His cross produced a goal, he scored a goal, he played his role as the bogey man very well, dragging two, sometimes three players with him. What else do you want mate?

I pray dis performance brings Ozil back to his best…We need him more now
