Matthias GinterArsenal are lining up a summer move for Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter to replace Thomas Vermaelen, according to The Metro.

The 20-year-old has been in impressive form for the Bundesliga side this season which has seen him receive his first full cap for Germany earlier in the month and has also attracted the interest of both Manchester United and Arsenal.

Although United have repeatedly been linked with the young centre-back but it is thought the Gunners are frontrunners for Ginter, who is valued at around £8-9 million by Freiburg.

The Germany international was watched by Arsenal’s chief scout Steve Rowley in Freiburg’s recent 4-1 win over Frankfurt, as Arsene Wenger looks to replace Vermaelen, who appears to be heading out of the Emirates at the end of the season with the Belgian unable to cement a regular role in the Frenchman’s side.

The 6’3’’ defender has been at Freiburg since 2005, but it was only in 2012 when he managed to breakthrough into the senior side. The German has since played regularly for the Bundesliga outfit, making 72 appearances (67 as a starter) so far.
