Would we have run away with title had we signed him?

Luis SuarezRay Parlour believes Arsenal would have won the Premier League title already if they managed to sign Luis Suarez.

The Gunners reportedly came close to signing the 26-year-old from Liverpool last summer, with the striker initially announcing his intention to leave the Merseyside club due to the constant media scrutiny he was receiving over his controversial behaviour at the end of last season.

Arsenal first two offers of £35 million and £40 million were rejected by Brendan Rodgers, but Arsene Wenger and co. would not be deterred by this. In fact, the club made one of the most impudent offers the transfer window has ever seen by offering Liverpool £40 million plus £1! A bid which they believed would trigger a release clause in Suarez’s contract.

Of course that bid was laughed at and turned down by the Liverpool hierarchy, with Rodgers labelling it as ‘a joke’, and the rest as they say is history.

But after seeing Suarez in scintillating form for the Reds this season, scoring 23 goals in 19 Premier League appearances thus far, former Gunner Parlour thinks had Arsenal been successful in their pursuit of the Uruguayan international then they would have romped their way to the title:

‘If Arsenal had bought Suarez they definitely would have been buying the title.

‘With the goals he scores, I’m sure if they had him in their team they’d win the league. There was a lot of talk he was going to leave and Arsenal put a bid in for him.

‘But he’s been sensational for Liverpool since then and probably quadrupled his price because of his goalscoring and his work rate.’

No doubt had we of signed Suarez then I also think we would by now have one hand on the title.

It’s a move which I think every Arsenal fan would have loved to see Wenger pull off and had he not made that ridiculous bid and just splashed the cash for one of the world’s best strikers then he’s be at Anfield this weekend playing against Liverpool instead of us.

Despite his controversial behaviour, Suarez is possibly the most lethal striker in the world currently and if Arsenal are thinking of going back in for him in the summer then they better be prepared to spend a monstrous sun to land him.
