Let’s hope it doesn’t come back to bite him in the ARSEnal

Arsene WengerWell it wasn’t by any means a spectacular, nor an exciting, January transfer window this season, especially the deadline day last night.

There were no big-name moves made by the big five clubs, and I’m sure many of us weren’t expecting much to happen on the Arsenal front.

A countless amount of names were linked with a January move to the Emirates, most notable Schalke’s Julian Draxler.

There was a lot of talk about Arsene Wenger bringing in the German playmaker and it looked at one point that he was going to land the 20-year-old before the deadline last night. However, reports claim the Frenchman wasn’t prepared to pay the £37 million Schalke were asking for for their prized asset.

As a result Wenger sprung a surprise move for experienced midfielder Kim Kallstrom, leaving many Arsenal fans scratching their heads and or pulling a confused face (I was one of them).

Although a midfielder was required as Mathieu Flamini is suspended for four games, Theo Walcott is out for the season and Aaron Ramsey faces another six weeks on the sidelines due to a setback on his recovery from a thigh strain, I’m sure none of us expected Wenger to sign Kallstrom from Spartak Moscow on loan until the end of the season – I didn’t, that’s for damn sure.

Though I didn’t expect our club to be busy during the January transfer window, it’s upsetting to see that Wenger opted to sign another midfielder rather than bring in a forward which we are in desperate need of. Yes he attempted to bring in Salomon Kalou from Lille and even tried to land Papiss Cisse from Newcastle on loan last night, but come on; you can’t tell me that Arsene tried on this front.

It is what it is now and I will continue to cheer the lads on from now until the end of the season. But I hope Wenger’s decision not to sign Draxler or even more so a quality striker doesn’t come back to bite him in the ARSEnal come mid-May.
