‘Door is open’ but should he stay?

Lukasz FabianskiArsene Wenger says the ‘door is open’ if Lukasz Fabianski wants to stay at Arsenal.

The 28-year-old joined Arsenal from Legia Warsaw in 2007 and has made 73 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners to date.

But his future at the Emirates looks to be in serious doubt, having not started a Premier League game so far this season, and his current deal set to expire over the summer.

Fabianski has been playing second fiddle to Wojciech Szczesny for a while now and although he has impressed on occasions, the Pole has been left frustrated at the lack of first opportunities as of late. As a result, he was linked with a move away from the club last summer and during the winter window last month, but it seems he has decided to run down his contract and will consider his options at the end of the season.

However, with Fabianski set to be called upon to replace Szczesny for the return fixture against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena – a game which could prove to be his last European appearance for the club – Wenger remains open to the idea of the Poland international remaining at the club beyond the summer:

‘Fabianski, of course it is a possibility that it is his last campaign with us. He wants to play somewhere, but if he changes his mind, my door is open.’

But should Fabianski sign a new deal at Arsenal? Well I don’t think he would want to stay if things aren’t changed. As long as Szczesny is at the club, Fabianski will always be second-choice.

Should Wenger try to keep him at the club? Well this depends on whether the Frenchman has sees a future for him or if he has someone else lined up to take his place.

Fabianski isn’t a bad goalkeeper to be honest – he has had calamitous moments in the past but every keeper suffers this from time to time. He is a good shot-stopper, commands his area well and has decent enough reflexes but unfortunately Szczesny is the superior goalkeeper at the club.

He’s not everyone’s favourite goalkeeper but he isn’t that bad of a back-up. So unless Wenger has someone in mind to come in and actually challenge Szcz for his place in the side then I think Wenger should attempt to keep him at the club – at least offer him a new contract and see what happens.

please fabianski should remain in the club, he’s so fast and sharp in the keepers box. I think he can always be important to us some times.

No he should move on and so should Viviano. We can then go for another keeper who actually might be better than Szczesney as they are out there.

Martinez macey and iliev can fight it out for the 3rd slot and the u21s whilst vickers and huddart are plenty for the u18s.

Al in all our teams compete for 9 trophies champions league, premier league, fa cup, league cup, under 21 league, under 21 league cup, youth champions league, under18 league and fa youth cup. Each keeper should be promised their own trophy hunt, with the no.2 keeper being promised all the cups

I would really love arsenal to get casillas. Promise him the champions league, fa cup and league cup whilst in the build up to league games he mentors our young keepers.
