Why he represents a better option overall for Wenger

Marco ReusReports earlier this week claimed Arsene Wenger is ready to activate Julian Draxler’s £40 million release clause to bring him to Arsenal this month rather than at the end of the season.

Draxler has admitted his admiration for our club before the winter window opened and would be keen on a move to the Emirates, leaving the ball in Wenger’s court as it were.

But while many Arsenal fans would love to see the German playmaker arrive this January, some believe the fee to be too extreme for a 20-year-old talent.

I have asked several fans on Twitter and my some of my family members (also Gooners) if £40 million well spent – I also wrote an article on the subject yesterday, debating if it would be a wise move on Wenger’s part. And the reaction I got from my Twitter followers, family members and comments on yesterday’s article was fairly mixed, some for and against the potential signing of Draxler. I asked my brother what he thought about it and he said he would rather see Wenger add another £30 million to the 40 and go for Luis Suarez instead!

Although he is a future star, I don’t think Draxler is worth £40 million – he has done nothing to suggest to me that he is worth that amount, and I would rather see that money go towards another player, preferably a world-class one.

Suarez aside, if Wenger is actually thinking about splashing out £40 million, then he should just spend three-quarters of that amount on Dortmund’s Marco Reus instead.

It’s believed Reus has a release clause of £29.4 million in his current deal at the Westfalenstadion, with only Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Arsenal credited with interest in the flamboyant winger.

Personally, I would rather see Wenger go for Reus over Draxler, as the former has more experience under his belt and, I believe, would have more of an impact on our current side than the latter.

I also believe Reus has better technical ability, creativity and versatility than Draxler, and is an all-round superior and consistent performer.

His stats overall are also greater to that of Draxler’s. Reus’ Dortmund’s stat since re-joining them back in 2012 currently stands at 74 total appearances made, 30 goals and 17 assists, while Draxler’s Schalke stats read 130 total appearances made, 25 goals and 18 assists since breaking through into the first-team in 2011. The stats don’t lie and suggests the Dortmund playmaker is more effective than his younger countryman.

Many of you may point out that Draxler is only 20 and has more potential, but Reus is only 24 himself and still has his better years ahead of him.

Both are great talents but for £10.6 million less, Reus (for £29.4 million, as well as being the more stand out player of the two in question) represents the better deal in my eyes, and if Wenger is going to splash out big on a top player this January then it should be him.

Yep, I would rather this deal go forward than Draxler’s

  • Super Gunner's says:

Reus is not interested in coming to Arsenal, Where as Draxler is.
yes he cost 10.6mil more but you will get 4 more years for your money.
overall they are both class players but Draxler has the potential to be a super star at Arsenal.

Both are quality players but I would rather have Reus than Draxler join. Although Drax wants to come to Arsenal £40 million is a heel of a lot of money for a 20 year old. Reus is a better option if indeed Wenger is looking to improve that area of the team. But I wouldn’t mind either to be honest

arsenal realy should buy astriker at arank of former t.henry.one to tap over 25goals

Interest in the club is an important factor and this stands Draxler out of the two. Reus is not interested to come to England. Let Wenger not waste more time in bringing in Draxler considering the club’s situation. He will be an instant hit at Arsenal.
