Wenger dismisses move for German playmaker

|

Julian DraxlerThere were rumours last night, during Arsenal’s FA Cup match against Coventry City, suggesting the Gunners had agreed a fee for the signing of Schalke’s Julian Draxler.

Former Norway star turned football pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft claimed the German club and Arsenal agreed a fee for the 20-year-old, who has been heavily linked with a £37 million move to the Emirates this month, and used Twitter to break the news to all.

At 8:33pm, Fjortoft, 47, tweeted:

‘I understand that Schalke and Arsenal have agreed a fee. If he will leave now I don’t know. But this is latest info #afc.’

However, Arsene Wenger has moved to dismiss these rumours, saying he has enough players capable of going forward from midfield.

When asked about Draxler’s proposed move, the Frenchman said:

‘That is an illusion. There is nothing happening, honestly no.

‘We don’t need to take players on the flanks – we have 17 players on the flanks.’

While Wenger denies a deal can be made for the German playmaker before the month ends, you can never rule it out. Le Boss said we weren’t in for anyone last summer but then he managed to sign Mesut Ozil on deadline day!

There are still six days to go before the window closes and I for one wouldn’t rule this Draxler move out.
