Do we REALLY want Wenger to sign him?

BerbatovNever judge a player on one performance – but having watched Dimitar Berbatov’s yesterday afternoon at the Emirates, I have come to the conclusion that I don’t want to see our club sign him this month.

The 32-year-old is expected to leave Fulham – either this month or at the end of the season – as it appears the Bulgarian is unwilling to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Reports suggest a £2 million fee would be enough to acquire Berbatov this month and with Arsenal short of option upfront – with Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner sidelined through injury – we have been linked with a move for the experienced striker.

Wenger recently admitted he is an admirer of the former Manchester United man but says no approach has been made, and judging by his mediocre performance yesterday you can tell why the Boss is reserved about making a move for Berba.

Although he is an extremely talented football who possesses fantastic vision and first touch, it is rarely seen. He is also very petulant these days, throwing his arms up in the air when one of his team-mates messes up a forward play or doesn’t pass him the ball – do we really want this at our club? To add to this, he is not in a hurry to track back or regain possession when he has, or his team-mates, loses the ball.

I’m not saying he is a poor player because he’s not – Berbatov is great when he wants to be but it’s like he can’t be bothered to show it anymore, like he’s proven his worth to the game.

We need a striker to come in and a £2 million move for an experienced Premier League forward like Berbatov looks a good piece of business on paper

But do we really want a player of his poor attitude and work-rate at our club? Not for me.

Berba is an awesome player! He has Thierry’s arrogance and the touch of Bergkamp! Yes he is a moaner! but because none of his current team mates are up to his standard! Yes he doesn’t track back but he is a striker!! I’d rather let Flamini or Arteta defend and leave the striker up front!! For £2/3 mil he is a bargain and we only need him for half a season!! as COVER not first choice! I can see him scoring goals against the spuds and manure! Imagine if he scored the goal that won us the league!! With Ozil, Cazorla, Rosicky, Wilshere etc behind him, providing assists…Berbatov would score so many goals!! Giroud needs 2 or 3 attempts to score, Berba needs 1 or 2! Plus he is a proven winner at his time at united! SIGN HIM UP!!!
