Cheikhou KouyateArsenal are ‘very interested’ in Cheikhou Kouyate, according to the player’s agent.

The Anderlecht centre-back has spoken of his desire to one day play in the Premier League and has been told he can leave the Belgian club before the January transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

And Kouyate’s representative, Saffet Balkan, claims Arsenal and Liverpool are both in talks over a move for the 24-year-old Senegal international.

Balkan said:

‘I have been in talks with representatives from Liverpool and Arsenal over Cheikhou Kouyate.’

He went on to confirm that his client is ‘very likely’ to be playing his football in England soon:

‘Arsenal are very interested in Kouyate. It’s very likely that he’ll be joining a Premier League club soon.’

It is believed Kouyate’s performances for Senegal during the 2012 Olympics caught Arsene Wenger’s eye but the defender was unable to acquire a work permit at the time.

But with Kouyate possessing a Belgian passport, this now allows him to secure a move to the Premier League.

While Wenger may be looking into the possibility of acquiring Kouyate, the Frenchman has more concerning matters to address upfront, even more so now that Theo Walcott has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with anterior cruciate knee ligament damage.
