Gideon ZelalemArsene Wenger is no stranger to unearthing gems and it seems the Frenchman has found another in Gedion Zelalem.

Zelalem, who is 17 today and is expected to sign his first professional contract with Arsenal, made his debut as a substitute in Friday’s FA Cup win against Coventry at the Emirates and produced an assured display for someone so young.

The exciting midfielder came through Hertha Berlin’s youth ranks before being scouted by the Gunners in the United States and first caught the eye during the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

Due to his outrageous potential, Zelalem has already been touted as the ‘new Cesc Fabregas’ and his ability has been highly endorsed by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the youngster’s latest performance.

I haven’t seen a lot of Zelalem to be honest, but from his movement and touch that I saw the other night; you can tell the kid’s got a bundle of potential and talent.

The Germany Under-17 international is technically very good on the ball, has an eye for a clever pass and keeps thing neat and tidy, which is a sign of promising player in my eyes.

He isn’t the finished article by any means; there is still a long way to go to become the player many expect him to be. However, the foundations are there and with more performances under his belt and under the tutelage of both the senior players and especially Wenger, Zelalem live up to his hype and one day, maybe, reach the levels of Fabregas at Arsenal.
