Arsenal have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid starlet Saul Niguez, but have been told by the La Liga club that they will have to pay a staggering £20 million to land the 19-year-old midfielder.
Arsene Wenger has met Niguez’s representatives and the Frenchman is thought to be keen on bringing the youngster, currently on loan at Rayo Vallecano, to the Emirates, reports the Sunday Mirror.
Niguez, a Spain Under-21 international, has a release clause of £20 million in his existing contract at the Vicente Calderon, meaning Atletico have no choice but to accept any bids that activate the clause.
Although Niguez is a hot prospect, Ateltico could do with the cash and may have to sell the Spaniard to balance the books a little.
Arsenal may have thought they were favourites to acquire the young midfielder, but Chelsea and United have now entered the race, with both clubs monitoring his progress extensively in the past week.
But is he really worth splashing out £20 million on? I don’t think so.
