pape souareArsenal are monitoring the progress of Lille left-back Pape N’Diaye Souare, according to several reports.

Arsene Wenger supposedly sent scouts out to France to watch the 23-year-old defender last Friday at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard against AS Saint-Etienne, as the Frenchman looks to bolster his defensive options.

The Senegal international has thrived and impressed in the full-back position after filling the void left by Lucas Digne, who left for PSG over the summer.

Souare has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Lille so far this season and has found the back of the net three times along the way.

I’m not too sure why Wenger is looking to bring in another left-back – we already have Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal, even Thomas Vermaelen can fill in if the other two are injured.

If anything he should find a suitable replacement for Bacary Sagna because it looks like he’s off in the summer!
