Why signing this former Gunner makes perfect sense

Alex SongAs January approaches clubs begin to line up possible targets to bolster their respective sides for the second half of the campaign.

The need for players with good qualities, however, doesn’t come cheap at this stage as clubs look to hold on to their prized assets.

Even though that may be the case for most, it isn’t for former Gunner Alex Song.

The Cameroon international has failed to find a regular starting role under new Barcelona gaffer Gerardo Martino which has led to speculation of a possible return to the Premier League this winter.

A few days ago the Daily Mirror suggested Song could be available for around £10 million in January – a bargain in today’s market, with both Arsenal and Manchester United supposedly keeping tabs on the developing situation.

But would his return to the club be a welcome one?

Well, in my opinion, we are in need of another holding midfielder and who better than a player who already knows our club inside out.

We all know of Song’s qualities and what he is capable of producing week in, week out and for £10 million it just makes sense.

His return would give us greater squad depth and a proper rotational option for Mathieu Flamini in that anchor midfield position.

I’m sure most Arsenal fans, like myself, won’t hold any hard feelings towards Song for his departure to Barcelona should he make a return to the Emirates. He’s a player who is no doubt liked by many or our fans after seeing him grow from a questionable character into a solid performer.
