ReinaArsenal have not halted their interest in Pepe Reina despite Barcelona reportedly having a preliminary agreement with Liverpool to sign the 31-year-old next summer.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo suggests the Gunners are still keen on Reina and Arsene Wenger will attempt to sign the Spaniard from under Gerardo Martino’s nose at the end of the season.

Reina has revealed, ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Napoli on Wednesday, that Wenger did show an eagerness to sign him. But the experienced shot-stopper opted to play this season under former boss Rafa Benitez in Naples.

It remains to be seen whether or not he will remain at Napoli after his loan spell with the Serie A outfit expires. However, it is almost certain that he will not remain a Liverpool player next season after falling out-of-favour with Brendan Rodgers.

Wenger has Lukasz Fabianski and Emiliano Viviano to call upon this season should Wojciech Szczesny suffer an injury or perform inconsistently.

However, Fabianski is likely to depart the Emirates from now until the end of the season while Viviano was brought in primarily for cover, so bringing in a new shot-stopper to challenge Szczesny for the gloves well may be on the cards next summer – perhaps that man could be Reina.

Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid are also keeping tabs on Reina
