Lassana+Diarra+FC+Lokomotiv+Moscow+v+FC+Dinamo+NHUjZU3xnYIlTransfer rumours – we are going to hear a lot of them from now until the end of January, and the latest one going round the mill is Arsenal’s reported interest in former Gunner and Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra.

The Express claims both the Gunners and Manchester City are looking to bring the 28-year-old, who currently plays for Lokomotiv Moscow, back to the Premier League in January following his impressive performances for the Russian outfit since his move from Anzhi Makhachkala over the summer.

The tenacious, defensive midfielder is contracted to Lokomotiv until 2016 and is thought to be happy with life in the Russian capital, but could be tempted to return to the Premier League with either Arsenal or City.

Diarra spent the latter part of 2007 with the Gunners but failed to get a look in under Arsene Wenger, making a total of 11 appearances for the club before moving to Portsmouth.

It is understood both Arsenal and City have made enquiries for Diarra.

Personally, I don’t see this happening and wouldn’t see the point of signing Diarra. We now have Mathieu Flamini who anchors the midfield brilliantly as well as Mikel Arteta who can, even though he isn’t the best in the position, play there as well. In addition, should both Arteta and Flamini be unavailable for one or two games I’m sure Thomas Vermaelen can step in.

I don’t see why Wenger would bring back a player he utilized just the 11 times.
