aaron ramseyJamie Redknapp believes Aaron Ramsey should aim to emulate the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard and bag at least 20 goals for Arsenal this season.

The 22-year-old Welsh midfielder has been in scintillating form for the Gunners this season, scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances in all competitions thus far, and has rightly earned praise and rave reviews from Arsene Wenger, the Emirates faithful and pundits alike.

Before the season started, Ramsey had scored 11 goals for the Gunners since his move from Cardiff City five years ago, and he is almost certain to add to his tally this term as the campaign wares on.

And Redknapp believes the Welsh international should aim to bag at least 20 goals like Lampard and Gerrard have done in previous years for Chelsea and Liverpool respectively:

‘Aaron Ramsey had scored 11 goals in all competitions in his Arsenal career up to this summer.

‘This season he has scored 10 already, adding another screamer against Liverpool.

‘Now he needs to go for 20, like Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard have done in the past.’

The former Liverpool midfielder turned Sky Sports pundit went on to say:

‘Cesc Fabregas scored 15 league goals in 2009-10, the best return from an Arsenal midfielder in the Premier League era.

‘Ramsey has six so far, but he is talented, confident and capable of more. Goalscoring midfielders are like gold dust.’

Ramsey has certainly turned his fortunes around since his horrific leg break and is, in my opinion, the player of the season in the Premier League so far.

The Welshman can certainly hit the 20 goal mark for us – there are still plenty of games left to play – but I don’t think he should think about it too much. I would rather him focus and not think about it as it could distract him. If he continues to play the way he’s doing then I’m sure he will add to his already impressive stats this season.
