Can we start to believe?

ArsenalIt’s been another good weekend for us – Chelsea lost 2-0 to Newcastle and we passed one of our biggest ‘tests’ of the season so far by picking up all three points against Liverpool at the Emirates yesterday evening, sending us five points clear of both teams just mentioned who sit second and third in the Premier League table.

10 games down and many of us are starting to believe that this may be our year that we finally end our trophy drought, and why not? Unlike previous seasons, the team look unified and are all on the same page. There doesn’t appear to be anymore egos at the club, players who think they are above others, and this is very pleasing to see.

We have, in past years, relied on certain players to get us where we needed to be, players like Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie. But this season it’s different. We now have a group of players at Arsenal who are all fighting for the same cause, and we are not being labelled as a one man team anymore.

However, and I’m sorry to put a little bit of a downer on it, but there is still along way to go. 28 games to be exact and we are entering the busiest time of the season – the stage of the campaign where, in previous seasons, we fade out. Not to mention where our squad start to deplete in terms of picking up injuries (we already have six in the treatment room).

Listen, we will drop points from now until the end of the season. It’s inevitable. But if we can maintain this momentum going through and beyond the Christmas period and of course keep our squad fit, and still be in the mix for the title, then why can’t we win it this season? Especially if Arsene Wenger manages to bring in a couple of new faces during the winter transfer window as well.

As me and my cousin said last night after the game finished: only we can lose it.
