Should Wenger spend big when he can?

Arsene WengerRobert Pires wants Arsene Wenger to spend big money whenever he can in order to compete with the others for major honours in both England and Europe.

Wenger stunned the whole of Europe when he splashed out £42.4 million to bring in Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. And the German international has played a pivotal role in the Gunners season thus far, helping them top the Premier League table and contributing four assists already.

And Pires believes Wenger must continue to spend in the next two transfer windows to keep Arsenal competing for honours in seasons to come.

The ex-France international said:

‘If you look at all the successful clubs who won titles and trophies, they always buy after they have been successful.

‘There is no question that Arsenal are at a high level at this moment. They are playing to the kind of football played during my time at the club. And Ozil – well, he is world-class.

‘But there appears to be a new financial philosophy at Arsenal now. Arsene can spend money, more than he has been able to do before and I believe he should add to the squad when he can.’

As our club is in a financially stable state, I also believe we should continue to spend big when we can, on the right players of course.

We do have a very good side as it is, but we could do with three more world class players coming in the next year or so to ensure we keep up with the other lot in the Premier League. The Ozil capture over the summer has done the club wonders and shows we can still compete and attract the best players in the world.

Pires is right. If we have the money to spend then why not spend it and make our side stronger and stronger as the seasons go by.

I agree on spending money, but on the right player. We need a world class striker and keeper and probably a new right back. The idea of getting draxler and bender in is mouth watering stuff, but who do we kick off the team next season and who off the midfeild players is gonna want to warm the bench? All we need is a striker and a right back in january and in that way we’ll be fixed for next season.
