Was he given enough time at Arsenal?

GervinhoFormer Gunner Gervinho insists his failure to perform consistently for Arsenal was down to Arsene Wenger not having enough faith in his ability.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Gunners in 2011 from Lille for around £10.8 million, only managed to score 11 goals in 61 appearances for Wenger’s side and, due to his consistency, fell out-of-favour, hence the Frenchman’s decision to sell the Ivory Coast international to Roma for an undisclosed fee this summer.

But Gervinho believes he wasn’t given enough time by Wenger and was played out of position, something he was not expecting when he signed for Arsenal two years ago.

Quoted in the Daily Mail, the Ivorian said:

‘I was not getting much time on the pitch and was in need of this time to improve and play my best football

‘Wenger was not prepared to give it to me.

‘Also my position on the wing was not what I was expecting and I wasn’t happy with it.’

Gervinho finished off by saying:

‘It would have helped had he shown more confidence in me.’

I believe he was given plenty of opportunities to prove his worth to the side and in fact did perform well on some occasions in his first season.

However, last season he was very inconsistent, hence Wenger’s decision to drop him down the pecking order below Lukas Podolski, Alex Oxalde-Chamberlain and even playmaker Santi Cazorla.

Good luck to him at Roma, but with Gervinho gone we now have a world-class player by the name of Mesut Ozil at our club who will certainly offer us a lot more than the Ivorian ever did.

It was the arsenal so called fans that undermined this player for fun and othetrs

Gervinho was, and remains a fucking joke! Eduardo was a player who probably deserved more time, but he has been nothing but a gentleman since leaving when questioned about us in the press. Gervinho is a mong with no heart and should never have worn the famous red and white.

Your finnishing and loosing balls made everybody loose confidence in you. Face it, you weren’t cut out for the EPL.

“Due to his consistency” ? What consistently shite ??

Gervinho was unlucky with injuries. This is why he had minimal playing time.

He was given opportunities to play up front and did not do well.
