Emiliano-Viviano-FiorentinaIt was recently confirmed that Emiliano Viviano has joined Arsenal from Palermo on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The 27-year-old, who has been capped six times for Italy, has been brought in as cover as well as keep Wojciech Szczesny on his toes.

Viviano spent last season on loan at Fiorentina where he made 32 Serie A appearances for the Florence club, having joined Inter in 2012.

The Italian shot-stopper was on Arsene Wenger’s radar in the past and has signed for The Gunners as stated by Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini moments ago:

Quoted on SkySports.com, Zamparini said:

‘Stefano Sorrentino and Samir Ujkani will be our goalkeepers this season.

‘We haven’t received any offers for them, whereas Viviano will go to Arsenal.’

It’s a signing which should appease the fans and ultimately give Szczesny some real competition for his position this season.

It’s a good move by Wenger who is looking to strengthening his side in the next four hours or so before the transfer window closes. Hopefully we see a few more new faces come in between now and 11pm tonight, notably Mesut Ozil’s.
