Bacary SagnaBacary Sagna sees his future as a centre-back.

The 30-year-old’s future at Arsenal is still unknown, with his contract set to expire in the summer. But reports have surfaced as of late claiming the Gunners are ready to offer the experienced right-back a new deal to remain at the north London club. It, however, remains to be seen whether or not Sagna will, if reports are to be believed, put pen to paper and extend his stay at the Emirates.

His performance levels last season weren’t as high as previous seasons, and increasing speculation over his future at Arsenal could’ve well contributed to this. That and breaking his leg…twice!

Sagna is still very much Arsene Wenger’s first-choice right-back, but the France international believes he may have to mould himself into a centre-back, a role he has played in already this season, citing his age as the key factor:

‘Why not [play there in future]? I’m getting old and at right back you need to put in a lot more effort. I don’t know how long I can do that to my maximum so maybe one day I will be able to play centre-back.’

To be honest, I think Sagna’s days as a right-back are up. I said it last season. He has lost a yard of pace and struggles to bomb up and down the right flank like he used too. He has proved already that he can play as a centre-back and perhaps this is where his future lies in the upcoming years.
