Do Arsenal need more than Ozil to ‘solve all their problems’?

Mesut OzilFormer Gunner Alan Smith believes the capture of Mesut Ozil has lifted everyone at the club, but it does not solve their problems:

‘The signing of Mesut Ozil has lifted everyone at the football club. It’s lifted the fans and taken a bit of the heat off Arsene Wenger.

‘They do need more than that though and it doesn’t solve all their problems though.’

I for one completely agree with Alan Smith. It has certainly given the fans and the team a lift and seeing how the German played yesterday against Sunderland, where he won the Man of The Match award and was happy to set up his team-mates, he can become a huge player for the club in years to come.

The other side to what Smithy said was that we do need more and I think it’s blatantly obvious that we need more depth. While it was great to see Thomas Vermaelen return from injury we now have Santi Cazorla visiting the treatment room – it never rains but it pours at Arsenal.

I would still like to see Arsenal spend in January, purchasing at least one defender and a quality striker. Also, in time, making Emiliano Viviano’s loan deal permanent, if he proves his worth. A striker is one of the biggest things we need. Despite Olivier Giroud’s goals so far we need a quality player to play along side him.

Ozil may not solve our problems as Smith said, but his arrival has shown that we can still attract the big-names and certainly strengthened our attack. And hopefully (in January) we can bring in a few more new faces and finally solve our problems once and for all.

I think we need another striker as if giroud gets injured we need backup defender we have cover there with flamini and he can also cover midfield. But look at yesterday’s match Walcott could have had four or five and had we also had a natural left side attacker you would have seen them set up I think Ozil played at least 8 key passes. As for giroud he is four in four in the premier league and scored his first goal outside of London to get that monkey off his back his only game to not score in was second leg against fenerbache though he didn’t have any real chances in that game and again it was first touch shot and near post finish.can we win league with Ozil and no other additions possibly not but we have had our best start to a season in a long time we have another six games before we come against Liverpool and united and if we have a good run going we have the confidence facing these two. What we have to do this season is take points of Chelsea city and utd both home and away we took 7 points out of 30 against top six teams last season if we took 15 this season it’s an improvement but if we want to challenge for title twenty four is needed.

I wonder why so called fans are always critical of wenger,i tell u, there is no perfect team anywhere, man u won the league last season with a shaky defence & a managable midfield…barcelona won the league with a questionable defence…bayern won treble without the most fearsome &prolific attack in europe..wenger has done well, ozil is a class act,we’ve seen his exploits,he may play his best football in arsenal…what we need is a world class finisher which i believe we can get by jan…for now fans should stop been negative,we have a very healthy squad…..hopefully when our injuried players gets back options will be available.what this squad needs now is to play with all ruthlessness & put up a good fight, our quality will take us far, wenger is not far from a trophy.

The defence is still a problem. Our defenders and the midfielders aint big enough for the epl. Most central defenders are at least 6ft tall.We have only the big german who is 196 cm but he is ponderous and in a one on one will probably be easily turned and beaten for pace. The penalties conceded by him testify to this.
We need a far more clinical forward to finish off the chances. Walcott has been around fiveyears and is still a work in progress judging by the wastage which happened yesterday. The gunners maybe top for now but far tougher tests await. if the gunners can safely navigate these ,then finally the gunners could seriously compete for the epl

I get what your saying William however what did chelsea and man city do with their complete teams??? Their dept!!! Lose to Cardiff and Everton and draw at Stoke still. For me the fans should stick to what they are fans, not anoying internet analyses pretending to know anything.
