Has panic set in at The Emirates? Me thinks so

Emirates StadiumArsenal have failed to acquire their top targets this summer. We were unwilling to match Real Madrid’s asking price for Gonzalo Higuain, which saw the Argentine striker move to Napoli. Wayne Rooney has disappeared from our radar and only looks like joining Chelsea if he departs United in the next 13 days. The Luis Suarez deal looks dead in the water at the moment. Stevan Jovetic signed for Manchester City, while our latest target (Luiz Gustavo) opted to join WOLFSBURG instead of us. What was supposed to be one of the most eagerly anticipated summer transfer windows in years for us, due to the substantial funds available for us to utilize, has simply turned out to be one of the most disastrous and frustrating in recent memory.

Last summer we managed to do our dealings in the window relatively early (not on deadline day). But after seeing all of our targets choose elsewhere other than the Emirates, it looks like Arsene Wenger will be doing some ‘panic’ buying on, or near, deadline day this summer. His latest bid, a derisory one in my opinion, for Yohan Cabaye is evidence of this. You would have thought that Wenger would’ve learned from his mistakes, but he hasn’t.

I’m not saying we won’t sign anyone, because anything can happen from now until the window shuts. However, I am saying that you will see Wenger pick up the scraps, players further down his list and probably players who he doesn’t really require.

Panic is setting in at the Emirates. Several Arsenal fans are panicking (me included), worried about whether or not they will see their team be reinforced in the upcoming days, and Wenger himself is more than likely bricking it, knowing he had so many days to sort out his dealings, but left it (once again) late. And also knowing what awaits him from the media and fans alike if he doesn’t attain top quality that was promised.

It’s only the media, wenger out boys or glory supporters who are panicking because we haven’t spent £100 million! The intelligent, patient and loyal Arsenal fans are happy to wait til Sept 2nd to judge! We def won’t be judging Arsenal after an unlucky defeat to Villa! Just chill and wait! It’s all good! We have got rid of the deadwood and not lost any important 1st team player! and the players we are linked to in the last couple of days are awesome! So its very exciting!!

Calm down. We have played one match with a dodgy ref and just about everything that could go wrong went wrong.

I really hate this continual sniping from the press about Arsenal and the next calamity about to happen.

    Get a grip!

Brian – its not about one game its about YEARS of Wenger wielding too much power and bringing the club down. Unless of course that you are happy with the current situation and think we will achieve anything with that french idiot in charge…

      • Brian says:

I have supported Arsenal since the 70’s and we have been in far worse places than we ever have been since Wenger has been in charge. It’s not fantasy football, there’s no instant fix.

It’s not about us having had worse sides since you supported Arsenal Brian. What it’s about is the fact that we are in the position financially to be able to compete for the title, and cups at the very least. It is the negligence shown at every level by our directors and manager that is dragging us down. Stop being an apologist and accept it…it’s for the best!

Sacking that cretin Wenger would have the same detrimental effect of keeping him on – Arsenal would suffer either way. So why not jettison that old fart and get someone in with some fresh ideas. Nothing could be worse than keeping him on for another season just for the BOD to award him with another bumper contract for achieving nothing….

You complain bcoz we havent signed any1 (apart from sanogo) and u want the boss to act, now he wants to sign sm1 and all of a sudden its ‘panic’ buying. Arsenal fans never seize to amaze.

  • Mick says:

It’s pratts like Tony Meraldi repeating the dross written in the Arsenal/Wenger hating press who cause and help propagate the feeling of panic amongst the fans. I do not see any panic from Wenger. One match, largely decided by the referee and you are doom and gloom already. Grow up for goodness sake, you act like spoilt children.

it has always been the news year in year out that arsenal are linked to this player! the rumour gathers momentum then the famous phrase,”not willing to match the valuation”! Wenger, save us from heart attack and buy!

  • Paul says:

In the last 17 seasons Arsenal have not finished outside the top four. In the previous 17 seasons they spent 8 of them outside the top four.

Wenger may at times struggle and he may find the transfer market one not based on sound economics but ultimately he does have a long term view of Arsenal. Fans want top four, titles, cups and everything but do not bay for blood too easily, the future is solid for Arsenal and good players will come. The press are creating ‘panic’ as it sells and Arsenal are an easy target! What will the press say if Arsenal win in Turkey tomorrow night?

Let’s support the gunners come what may

Arsenal fans, I mean the less patriotic and the most vocal and insanely disruptive ones are the major cause of Arsenal woes. You would ask me why?
1 For every little problem, they will exaggerate and magnify it and make it 100 times bigger than Normal
    2. They create a very hostile environment around the manager and player, putting them under siege and in an environment of fear and tension that is beyond what is psychologically absorbable. The result is reduced efficiency in players performance coupled with fear of what might be the reaction of fans in case of performance that is below expectation.
    3. They are indirectly weakening the team resistance to external criticism and attack by our competitors and the normally hostile British Press.
Why would anyone come to play for a club whose fans abuse players and call them dead woods?
I sometimes wonder why Wenger should stick with a team whose supporters behave like typical British mobs when he could have gone to where he would have more cash to spend and also earn more? It must be because he is a man of sound principle and not a nomadic coach who does not care what happens after his exit from the club.
Until Wenger goes, Arsenal club especially the irascible fans would not know the value of the man
Sometimes one begin to wonder what is the real problem of the fans? They behave as if the team is facing relegation. They call for the return of their Arsenal. I ask what is your Arsenal? Wenger is the father of Modern Arsenal. He transformed the team from a conservative English monument to a brand with a global appeal and known as far as Africa and the far East. Only an idiot would want a return to pre Wenger era. However, I will join hand with loyal and well behaved fans to urge Wenger to do all he could to reenact the early Wenger era up till the invincible period but I would not join the psychopaths to abuse Wenger, the board or the players, they all deserve our support because inspite of our failures to win any trophy for the past 7 years, they have managed to keep the team at the top bracket. Advice and encouragement rather than abuses and insults would help them to do better.
